British actor and martial artist Andrew Koji has joined the cast of the upcoming action fantasy film, Boy Kills World. Sam Raimi and Roy Lee are producing the film, with Bill Skarsgard and Samara Weaving headlining the cast. Boy Kills World is described as a “one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever-dream reality.”
As per Deadline, “Boy Kills World follows a boy who is a deaf-mute with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, he escapes to the jungle and is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.” Bill Skarsgard (It, Castle Rock) will be playing the lead role. Boy Kills World is in the early stages of production, and no details regarding Andrew Koji’s character have been released yet. But judging by his martial arts background, we can expect to see Koji in another action-heavy role. Boy Kills World also features Indonesian action star Yayan Ruhian (The Raid: Redemption) and Isaiah Mustafa (It Chapter Two).
German director Moritz Mohr, best known for his short film Akumi, is making his feature film debut with Boy Kills World. Arend Remmers and Tyler Burton Smith (Child’s Play) have penned the screenplay from a story by Remmers and Mohr. The pitch for Boy Kills Worldimpressed Spider-Man director Sam Raimi, who is producing the film alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. “I am thrilled to be partnering up again with Roy Lee on Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Moritz has a brilliant sense for action, humor, and world building that I just cannot wait for the world to see. We are excited to be collaborating with Nthibah and Hammerstone to bring Moritz’s unique film to life.” Raimi said to Deadline last year.
Simon Swart, who is financing Boy Kills World through his Ntibah Pictures, believes the film could kickstart a successful franchise. “Boy Kills World is set in a distinct dystopian world, combining real-world themes with a stylized look that is fresh, cool and original, borrowing from the best of graphic novels. With a script that combines wild innovative action sequences, a sense of humor and a lot of crazy, this film has the potential to be a worldwide hit and potential franchise property.”
Andrew Koji will be next seen in Warrior Season 3
Andrew Koji had his breakthrough role in the Cinemax original Warrior. Based on an original concept by Bruce Lee, Warrior is a martial arts crime drama set in the 1870s San Francisco that ran for two seasons on Cinemax before being shelved. However, HBO Max came to the rescue, and the show has been renewed for a third season. Koji is becoming synonymous with action films nowadays, having played Storm Shadow in Paramount’s G.I. Joe reboot, Snake Eyes. He will also be a part of David Leitch’s upcoming thriller, Bullet Train. Featuring an ensemble of several Hollywood A-listers, including Brad Pitt, Zazie Beetz, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Sandra Bullock, Bullet Train will release this summer, July 15, 2022.
Boy Kills World, on the other hand, is expected to commence filming soon in South Africa and will most likely come out in 2023. Hopefully, Boy Kills World will be as exciting and original as its story suggests.
