The newest character in The Munsters, Rob Zombie’s new movie based on the classic sitcom of the same name, has been revealed. Last year, when the rumors first emerged that Zombie was working on a Munsters movie, a small handful of rumored names attached to the cast were also reported on. Among them was Lost star Jorge Garcia, but almost a full year after word first broke, his casting still hadn’t been officially confirmed.
On Friday, Zombie let it be known that Garcia is, in fact, in The Munsters. Zombie posted a new image of the film to Instagram of Garcia in his role, introducing him as the character Floop. You can take a peek at Garcia in The Munsters below.
In the caption, Zombie writes, “ATTENTION! CASTING NEWS! Straight from the set of The Munsters in beautiful downtown Budapest is this exclusive shot JORGE GARCIA as FLOOP – Dr. Wolfgang’s hunchback assistant and Herman Munsters best buddy. I am sure you all remember Jorge as Hurley from smash hit Lost or perhaps from Hawaii Five-O as Jerry Ortega or from Adam Sandler’s The Ridiculous 6.”
“Herman’s bestie & a gentleman to everyone on set! We all lucked out when Jorge came to town!” writes Herman Munster actor Jeff Daniel Phillips in the comments.
Phillips and Garcia were both named in the first reports of The Munsters movie getting produced. Richard Brake had also been rumored with Zombie previously revealing that Brake would be playing Dr. Wolfgang, the resident mad scientist. Sheri Moon Zombie and Dan Roebuck, who respectively play Lily Munster and Grandpa, were also included in the rumors. More recently, it had been divulged that the film also stars Doctor Who legend Sylvester McCoy as Igor and former Bond girl Catherine Schell as Zoya.
The Munsters Cast Has Mostly Been Revealed, But Some Questions Remain
At this point, everyone who was rumored to be a part of the cast has been officially confirmed except for one key name. From the start, it had been reported that Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson has a role in the film. There has not been any official word from Zombie that this is the case, but with casting announcements continuing to be made, we could be seeing Peterson’s role unveiled in the near future. It’s always possible that her rumored casting was inaccurate, but as all the others were eventually verified, it seems likely that Elvira will appear in The Munsters, but as whom?
Fans of The Munsters must also be questioning the absence of two major characters from the original sitcom. Eddie and Marilyn Munster haven’t been seen with the other family members in any of the sneak peek set photos. Is it possible that these two have been scrubbed from this incarnation of the Munsters story? Or will Zombie be including them after all with their actors yet to be revealed?
The Munsters still doesn’t have an official release date but it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2022. Rumor is that it will be given a day-and-date release by premiering both in theaters and on Peacock.
