The synopsis for the upcoming Bob’s Burgers Movie has finally been revealed. On Monday night’s National College Championship Football Game, the first trailer for the project will be released. In anticipation for the preview, the movie’s production company 20th Century Studios unveiled a description for the film’s overall plot.
According to the summary, Bob and Linda Belcher will deal with problems at the restaurant that could end up ruining their summer. At the same time, their kids Louise, Gene, and Tina are trying to solve a mystery by themselves. Many episodes of the series have multiple plots, with the kids and the adults each getting their time to shine. The dual storylines sound like a regular episode of the tv show. This time, the project will have the same runtime as a feature film. Jokes, songs, and sincerity are to be expected in the motion picture. Like the movie, several episodes of the tv show feature characters breaking out into song.
The synopsis for the title reads: “The Bob’s Burgers Movie is an animated, big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure based on the long-running Emmy-winning series. The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belcher’s plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.”
Based on the television show created by Loren Bouchard, which is currently in its 12th season, Bouchard describes The Bob’s Burgers Movie as an “epic adventure” for the Belcher family. The main cast includes the father Bob (H. Jon Benjamin), mother Linda (John Roberts), eldest daughter Tina (Dan Mintz), son and middle child Gene (Eugene Mirman), and youngest daughter Louise (Kristen Schaal). Additonal cast members include the family’s best friend Teddy (Larry Murphy), health inspector Hugo (Sam Seder), landlord Calvin Fischoeder (Kevin Kline), Calvin’s brother Felix Fischoeder (Zach Galifanakis), and Gene’s love interest/rival Courtney Wheeler (David Wain). All of the actors for the big screen picture also play the same characters on the small screen. At the time of this writing, it is unknown if other supporting characters will appear.
After announcing the film in 2017, Bouchard explained, “We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s, but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?”
Multiple delays pushed the original July 17th release date. The Bob’s Burgers Movie is set to debut in theaters on May 27th, 2021.
