The final trailer for this week’s Scream hypes up the thrills with the help of glowing critical reviews. January might typically be a slow month for movies, but one of the most anticipated films of 2022 arrives in theaters this Friday. Scream looks to revitalize the long-running slasher franchise with an original take that still holds ties to the previous films. It’s the first movie in the series to not be directed by the late Wes Craven; instead, Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are taking over. Based on the early reactions to Scream, they’ve been quite successful in their efforts.
The new film returns to the tragedy-prone town of Woodsboro, where something evil is afoot once more. A new Ghostface killer is slashing up victims, and only those who faced that familiar mask before are equipped to face them. That means original Scream trio Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Dewey Riley (David Arquette), and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) all assemble to help the newest generation of potential victims survive their encounters with Ghostface. Said new generation includes Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kyle Gallner, Sonia Ben Ammar, and Mikey Madison.
With Scream set to hit theaters later this week, Paramount Pictures makes its final push to entice viewers with a brand new trailer. The short but jam-packed video features some tantalizing and terrifying visuals, including a glimpse of Ghostface with a flamethrower. Plus, the trailer makes good use of those positive early reactions. Check it out below.

With four movies and a television show under its belt, there’s been some apprehension from fans over whether Scream can effectively breathe new life into the franchise. Though reviews don’t go up until the early hours of Wednesday, it sounds like longtime fans have reason to be excited. The final Scream trailer demonstrates a solid balance between the new characters and the old, and with that flamethrower, it shows that this Ghostface is stepping up their game. It remains to be seen if the original Scream‘s garage door kill can be beat, but at least the new one isn’t sticking to only knives.
Based on the above trailer, Scream is going to be a suspenseful thrill ride, and fans should be prepared for all kinds of surprises. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett confirmed back when the first Scream trailer was released that there was plenty of misdirection baked into the marketing, so even if viewers think they know what’s going to happen, they’re probably wrong. It’s been a while since a horror movie of this size has been in theaters (Halloween Kills in October arguably being the last), so Scream just might be the perfect movie for thrill-seeking audiences. It all kicks off this weekend.
