We probably won’t be getting a casting announcement for the next James Bond in the immediate future, leaving up to the fans to continue their speculation as to who will be the next actor to suit up as 007. One name that has sometimes come up as a possibility is Miles Teller who recently impressed with his role in the hit film Top Gun: Maverick, which continues to build up record-setting profits in theaters. Among those fans pushing for Teller’s casting is his grandmother, Leona Flowers, who made her case for her grandson as James Bond with a post on Twitter.
“They’re looking for an actor to replace Daniel Craig for future 007 movies,” Flowers said. “I think my grandson, Miles Teller, has proven that he has everything they’re looking for- talent, looks, strength, worldwide appeal & oh, so cool. He can be that guy!! Wouldn’t he be great?”
Many Bond fans have agreed with Fowers that Teller would be a solid choice for the role, though others say the actor doesn’t quite look right for the part. Other fans have pointed out that Teller is not British. In a follow-up tweet, Flowers provided the original concept artwork of James Bond and said that it looks very similar to her grandson. She said in another post that Teller would also be just fine in the role of the British superspy as he’s popular in England.
Miles Teller Is Up for Playing James Bond
Per Entertainment Tonight, Teller has since responded to his grandmother’s campaign for him to play James Bond. Of the buzz that it generated and the calls for him to play the character, Teller seemed very open to the idea, feeling that his casting as 007 could be a way to “mix it up” compared to the previous actors’ portrayals.
“Yeah. I mean, yeah perfect,” Teller said when asked about possibly playing Bond. “I think we’re actors, you know, so maybe you can mix it up a little bit.”
This makes it clear that Teller wants his name in the hat when it comes time to casting Bond in the next reboot of the long-running movie series. He joins one of many rumored names that have also been lobbied by fans for the role, including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, and Robert Pattinson. But no matter who fans might want to see in the part, they may have to wait a while to get an answer as to who exactly their next James Bond will be.
“Nobody’s in the running,” Bond producer Barbara Broccoli told Deadline in June. “We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”
