A fan poster imagines the cast of Knives Out 2 in Chris Evans’ cable knit sweater. The Captain America actor starred in Rian Johnson’s 2019 whodunnit as the spoiled trust fund playboy, Ransom Drysdale, who is eventually revealed to be the primary culprit who conspired to kill the family patriarch, Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). In the years since Knives Out‘s release, Evans’ character and his signature cable-knit sweater have remained the subject of various memes and fan art, including one piece that puts Buzz Lightyear’s head onto Ransom Drysdale’s body.
In March 2021, it was announced that Netflix had closed a massive $469 million deal to secure the rights to two Knives Out sequels with its original/writer/director returning. Daniel Craig is the only member of the original cast returning. He’ll again play his Southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc putting the dysfunctional Thrombey family behind him and heading to Greece to investigate an entirely new mystery. Knives Out 2 has assembled an all-star ensemble that could rival the first, including Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke in a cameo appearance.
Now, a new Knives Out 2 fan poster from Fandom imagines the sequel’s cast all outfitted in Ransom Drysdale’s signature cable-knit sweater. The poster edit features all the aforementioned stars side-by-side and, if it wasn’t for the unusual clothing choice, could serve as a somewhat-believable poster for the follow-up. It’s certainly a mystery worthy of Benoit Blanc as to why Ransom Drysdale’s sweater has been the subject of such fascination and one of the most oft-discussed aspects of Knives Out. Shortly after the film’s opening in 2019, theaters became inspired to host “sweaters only” screenings of the murder mystery, which led to a considerable increase in sales of that specific knit sweater style. Now, years later, as the sequel is gearing up for its release this fall, fans are still fixated on Evans’ overgarment.
Besides a funny gag, this fan poster serves as the first look at the sequel’s cast side-by-side. Though it was previously thought to be impossible, Knives Out 2‘s cast could outdo the first movie’s all-star ensemble. With Netflix shelling out almost $500 million for the two sequels combined, Johnson is likely working with a little more room in the production budget this time around, allowing him to splurge on an array of in-demand actors. It will surely be a thrill to see them in official posters and trailers once the promotional campaign commences.
