In a tell-all interview, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Daredevil star, Charlie Cox, reveals the measures he and Andrew Garfield had to take in order to hide their involvement with the Marvel blockbuster. After starring as the titular character in Netflix’s Daredevil series, Cox’s future within the MCU remained in the balance for a period of time after the entire Marvel Netflix lineup was canceled as Disney branched out with their own streaming service. However, fans were delighted to see Cox’s Matt Murdock surprisingly appear as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Tom Holland’s latest outing as the web-slinger, alongside Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who both returned as their versions of Spider-Man.
No Way Home follows Parker after the events of Far From Home as his identity is revealed by Mysterio to the entirety of New York City, and he must deal with the fallout. After persuading Doctor Strange to cast a spell to make everyone forget the detail of his identity, it goes horribly wrong and, the multiverse opens to let all sorts of dangers and variants into the universe. Joining Cox, Holland, Garfield, and Maguire are the usual allies of Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei, as well as Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church, Alfred Molina, and Rhys Ifans all returning as antagonists from previous films.
In the interview with THR, Cox detailed how met with Garfield for lunch during the filming but quickly realized that them being seen together may have looked suspicious to fans who were already theorizing that they would appear in No Way Home. The two quickly took the initiative and were forced to both sit facing the wall next to each other whilst having lunch, leaving only the backs of their heads in view for any paparazzi who may have been passing by. Read Cox’s comment below:
While we were sitting down, it occurred to both of us, ‘Oh, shit. If we’re filmed here together, that’s not a good sign.’ So we ended up sitting, facing the wall, both of us.
Ever since the cancellation of the Marvel Netflix universe, Daredevil is now the first character to make his way into the cinematic world of the MCU, however, many fans now question when other fan favorites, such as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, will make their anticipated returns. Currently, many rumors have been circulating amongst communities that Jones will reportedly appear in the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ series. With the past rumor of Matt Murdock appearing in Spider-Man turning out to be true, Jones’ possible reappearance is only that much more probable.
With this revelation now clearly stated to fans, they are now able to see the true lengths that these stars will go to in order to hide large Marvel details from the public eye. Furthermore, this only highlights how secretive Marvel Studios truly is with its upcoming projects and encourages audiences to keep their eyes out for any clues or hints to upcoming films in the future. After Cox’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it will certainly be interesting to see who will make their way back to the MCU next.
