A new video from the set of Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2 shows Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones) chasing after someone for an important reason. Originally released in 1993, Hocus Pocus grew to become a Halloween cult classic in the decades after its lackluster premiere. Showcasing the wickedly whimsical talents of Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as the malevolent Sanderson sisters, the movie centers on three kids attempting to save Salem after accidentally bringing ancient witches back to life.
Another character brought back from the dead was William “Billy” Butcherson, who Winifred Sanderson (Midler) magically resurrects at the graveyard. Played to a creepy T by Jones, the zombie-like brute ends up aiding the protagonists by the end of the flick. Though the Sandersons are the stars, Bill threatens to steal the show with hilarious physical comedy. From losing fingers to getting decapitated, the character provides for lots of laughs. For this reason, fans hoped to confirm that he’d be back for the highly-anticipated sequel. Turns out, Jones has been seen once again donning his colonial attire and wacky makeup for the followup film, which began filming in Rhode Island in the fall.
Popular Instagram account Hocus Pocus Guide shared two new videos that show Billy chasing after someone who has stolen his head. An excited onlooker recorded both takes of the scene, which will undoubtedly be put together in editing, first capturing a headless Billy running through a neighborhood and then the actor (head and all) doing another take. Watch both of the clips below:
The scene, which was shot down Benefit Street in Providence, proves that Billy is back on the hunt for his head. A prerecorded audio from the actor plays in the background, saying already-memorable lines like: “follow the sound of my voice you bag of dust!” He also exclaims “get her!” which means whoever stole his head was likely a girl – possibly the film’s new lead Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl). Of course, you never know which side Billy will wind up being on. While Hocus Pocus saw him brought back to life to aid the Sanderson coven, he ended up shifting alliances in the end.
Jones has previously elaborated on the character’s backstory, which gives fans a better understanding of his complex relationship with Winnie. He revealed that the duo were lovers in colonial times until he cheated on her with Sarah. Fans may get to learn more about their history as Hocus Pocus 2 will offer flashbacks to the late 1600s. Perhaps this time around Billy will have a reverse character arc with the protagonists conjuring him up to aid them and then him ultimately getting some resolution with Winnie. Only time will tell, as Hocus Pocus 2 won’t be released until the fall of 2022.
