Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot will star in a remake of the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock classic, To Catch a Thief. Deadline has reported that the project will be written by Prodigal Son and Lethal Weapon scribe Eileen Jones, with Gadot on board not only to lead but to produce alongside her partner Jaron Varsano through their Pilot Wave Banner.
While plot details for the remake of To Catch a Thief are unknown at this time, we can no doubt ascertain clues from the original. Released in 1955, To Catch a Thief is a romantic thriller directed by seminal filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, working from a screenplay by John Michael Hayes and based on the 1952 novel of the same name by David Dodge. The movie stars the Golden Age of Hollywood icon Cary Grant as John Robie AKA “The Cat,” a former cat burglar who has now reformed and changed his ways. Unfortunately, he soon finds himself in the spotlight once again after a robbery takes place and he is accused of committing it. Robie must protect his newfound reputation, prove his innocence and catch the real criminal.
The remake of To Catch a Thief is likely to follow a similar plot, but with Gal Gadot at its center in place of Cary Grant, with the project likely to gender-swap the role of “The Cat” and act as another star-making vehicle for the Wonder Woman and Red Notice actress. The project will also give rising star Eileen Jones the opportunity to display her talents alongside her recent pitch, Highwayman, which was recently picked up by New Line, and will also see Margot Robbie and Christina Hodson involved.
Gal Gadot has quickly become Hollywood hot property thanks to lead roles in the likes of the Fast and the Furious franchise, DC’s Wonder Woman and Netflix’s recent action flick Red Notice alongside fellow A-listers Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.
Gadot has several major projects in the pipeline, including a sequel to Wonder Woman 1984, currently known as Wonder Woman 3, which the actress provided a promising update on recently. “We’re developing the script right now. We’ll probably start in a year and a half or so,” she said when asked about the state of development on Wonder Woman 3.
As well as returning to her duties as a superhero, Gal Gadot will also take on the role of Cleopatra under the direction of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Kari Skogland. While very little has so far been revealed about the movie, Gadot did recently tease what audiences can expect. “I can’t reveal a lot, but I can tell you that we’re going to celebrate the Cleopatra story,” she said. “We’re going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had and still has on the world we’re living in today. I’ve watched all the Cleopatra movies throughout history, but I feel like we’re telling the story the world needs to hear now.”
Gal Gadot will next appear in director Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, which is due for release on February 11, 2022.
