Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman argue over who is the best God of Thunder in the latest promo for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. The actors feature in a new promotional video for Mexican exhibitor Cinepolis (shared via @thesebbazz), with Portman due to wield the coveted hammer Mjölnir and suit up as The Mighty Thor opposite Hemsworth.
Chris Hemsworth once again demonstrates the comical stylings and timing that he has become so well-known for, as he takes digs at Portman’s Mighty Thor by stating that he is the original and therefore the best. Portman though is ready for such an attack, taking a swipe at Hemsworth’s Asgardian and his lack of magical hammer. A hammer which, in the hands of Hemsworth, was destroyed. Of course, it’s all in good fun.
Natalie Portman will reprise the role of Thor’s former love interest Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. After visiting New Asgard, her life was changed forever as the broken pieces of Mjolnir, the hammer of the thunder god, are mysteriously drawn to her, transforming her into the Mighty Thor. However, despite the reuniting of these former lovers, director Taika Waititi has warned that things may not play out as we might expect.
“I wanted to embrace this thing that I was always a bit dismissive of, and explore this idea of love, and show characters who do believe in love,” Waititi explained. “On paper, it feels kinds of cringy to me, but there’s a way of doing it with cool characters making a cool movie, and also having a thing that no fan ever wants in a superhero movie, which is people talking about love, and characters kissing. I think most people will assume that the love story is between Chris and Natalie. I can’t promise that what people think is going to happen in this film will happen.”
Thor Will Need All the Help He Can Get in Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a quest for inner peace, but his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, played by Academy Award winner Christian Bale. Seeking the extinction of the gods, Gorr the God Butcher will cut a bloody path through time and space, wiping out every god he comes across. And his sights are now set on Thor.
To combat the threat of Gorr the God Butcher, Thor will enlist the help of his old friends King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi, and starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
