O’Shea Jackson Jr. celebrated his Straight Outta Compton co-star Aldis Hodge’s first official appearance as Hawkman in footage from Black Adam. Black Adam, which comes to theaters on July 29, 2022, stars Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero, who is typically a nemesis to Shazam. The film reteamed the star with Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra. In addition to introducing Black Adam to the DC Extended Universe, the film will also feature the Justice Society of America, including Hawkman (Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan).
Aldis Hodge has had a long career ever since his first film appearance in 1995’s Die Hard with a Vengeance. In between starring in well-received Oscar contenders like Straight Outta Compton, Hidden Figures, and One Night in Miami, the actor has also appeared in roles including the Blumhouse horror hit The Invisible Man. Black Adam is Hodge’s first role in a major superhero blockbuster.
Today, DC just released a trailer for the upcoming DCEU projects over the next two years, which included footage showing the first full glimpse of the Justice Society, including Hawkman. On his Twitter, O’Shea Jackson Jr., who co-starred with Aldis Hodge in the Oscar-nominated N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, quote tweeted a Fandom post sharing the image to celebrate. He captioned the photo with “My dawg a whole superhero!!! Let’s goooo [Aldis Hodge] MC Ren is now DC Ren!!!!! Happy for you bro.” Check out the post below:

Hawkman is a classic DC Comics character who first appeared in 1940. Although he has appeared in many different iterations since his inception, he is usually characterized by his use of medieval weapons and the massive wings attached to his back with a harness. He has had several origin stories as well, but he is usually depicted as the reincarnation of an Egyptian God, hence the affection for ancient modes of combat.
Black Adam is the second live-action DC Comics movie set to hit theaters in 2022, so a lot will be riding on how well it continues the franchise’s prospects after the release of the hotly anticipated The Batman on March 4. However, with such a talented collection of stars coming together to bring the superhero squad to life, it seems unlikely that the film will underperform. Aldis Hodge might not yet have achieved the same level of celebrity as some of his co-stars, but with the support of the other celebrities who are in his corner, he will certainly help boost the film to be the best it can be.
