A new Batgirl set video has surfaced showing Barbara Gordon (Leslie Grace) threateningly dangling a criminal out of a window. The first comic-book iteration of Batgirl (Betty Kane) was introduced to readers in 1961 before being replaced by the daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara, in 1967. Following several small-screen depictions, as well as Alicia Silverstone’s Batgirl in Batman & Robin (1997), directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s (Bad Boys for Life) Batgirl will mark the first-ever live-action movie focusing solely on the character. Based on a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey), filming for the project is currently underway in Scotland.
Batgirl is expected to skip theaters and release directly on HBO Max later this year. The film will introduce Grace’s Barbara Gordon/Batgirl to the DC Extended Universe. J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon, last seen in Justice League. After returning as the caped crusader in The Flash, Michael Keaton will also once again appear as a sort of mentor as Bruce Wayne. While plot details are being kept under wraps, Batgirl will pit its titular hero against Firefly (Brendan Fraser), a jetpack and flame-thrower-wielding serial arsonist who terrorizes Gotham City.
With filming ongoing in Glasgow, many photos and videos from the set of Batgirl have started to appear online. The latest clip shows Barbara interrogating a Gotham criminal by holding them out of a window. Check out the video, courtesy of Batgirl Film News below:

Batgirl will presumably take place in the same corner of the DCEU as Ben Affleck’s Batman—who is set to hang up his cape and cowl in The Flash. While the familiar Keaton will now be in the DCEU, Warner Bros./DC Films seems committed to also showing a different, new side of Gotham through the eyes of Batgirl. Being that Matt Reeves’ The Batman won’t be connected to any previous DCEU films, Batgirl is the universe’s first true Bat-centric film and only the second solo female-led franchise for the DCEU, joining Wonder Woman. There have even been rumors that Grace’s character is being set up to replace Batman as a member of the Justice League in future movies.
Before she inevitably combats world-ending threats, Barbara Gordon will first defend Gotham against street-level villains like Firefly. This may mean interrogating criminals via unconventional means, like threatening to throw them out a window. Despite the unwarranted controversy surrounding the first look at Barbara’s “cosplay-like” costume, Batgirl is poised to be a more grounded and gritty type of superhero movie. Batgirl is currently set to premiere on HBO Max later this year.
